COLLEGE RECRUITING!!!!!!

NCAA Academic Eligibility Changes for Division I

These new requirements are changes that will affect your student-athlete in grades 9-11 this school year in order to be eligible to compete in college as a freshman at the DI level.

•        14 – NCAA approved core course credits are required for the Class of 2005 (DI & DII)  (computer science will no longer be considered an approved course)
•        You must meet ALL the NCAA requirements to become a “full qualifier” or you will be a “non-qualifier”
•        The new sliding scale or “qualifier index” is
        a minimum 2.0 core GPA with at least a 1010 SAT or 86 ACT sum score or
        at least a 3.55 core GPA or higher with a minimum 400 SAT or 37 ACT sum score

** Also important,  the Class of 2008 will be required to have 16 core course credits to play at a DI level.

Other useful information

•        All athletes should enroll with the NCAA Clearinghouse to help with eligibility
        www.ncaaclearinghouse.net  ---  use this website to register and receive information

•        All athletes should understand that they need to look into colleges, the colleges will not come looking for them.  They need to sell and market themselves.  A few things to help the athletes are
        Creating a resume about their soccer careers, including their coaches, how fast they run, achievements and awards they have received, etc.

        Athletes should also have a highlight tape that they could send to a college they are interested in.  This tape should only be about 2 to 3 minutes long, and should be able to get a coaches interest
within the first 30 seconds.

        Another website that is also very useful is:
www.collegenet.com    This website will help athletes find a college that best suits them by entering certain information.

•        Athletes also need to understand that there are a lot of scholarships out there to claim, as long as they are willing to look and work for them.

If there are any questions you have or if you would like help finding a college that best suits you--- PLEASE do not hesitate to ask one of your high school soccer coaches for help.

Attention 2007 high school graduates (and anyone planning to attend an NCAA member institution starting in the 2007-08 academic year)!

The NCAA has adopted new legislation that will require prospects who intend to enroll at NCAA Division I and Division II institutions to supply
ACT or SAT scores to the Clearinghouse directly from the testing agencies. Test scores on an official high school transcript will no longer be
usable for NCAA purposes. Start now and plan to have your ACT and SAT scores sent to the Clearinghouse (via code "9999") so that your
certification decision will not be delayed. For more details consult the NCAA's website at www.ncaa.org or call the Clearinghouse. This change
in legislation will impact anyone who has previously registered with the Clearinghouse and intends to enroll in fall 2007 or later. If your record
has been posted with scores from an official high school transcript, these scores will be removed and it will be necessary for you to comply with
this new rule.
